There are several volunteer groups in Darvel. Anyone can join any or all of them. This short article provides an overview of what each group does..
The Darvel & District Community Council (DDCC) acts as a voice for Darvel, Priestland and the surrounding area. It expresses the views of the community on a wide range of issues of local concern, to East Ayrshire Council (EAC) and to other organisations.
The DDCC raises funds from various sources for local projects and events like the Darvel Gala Day, The Planters Project, The Rose Garden, and Christmas lights. It also puts forward views on local planning applications and on which premises in their area can sell alcohol.
The Darvel Trust is a registers charity (SCIO) that owns, manages and develops activities and events at the Darvel Sport Centre. In addition the trust has plans to expand its services to non-sports activities and a wider community engagement.
The Darvel & Area Regeneration Team (DART) is a registered charity (SCIO) who purpose is to regenerate the town and community of Darvel, Priestland and surrounding areas. DART leads in the development of The Corner, The Waterlip Project and the Darvel Arts Project.
The Gala Team raise funds for, plan, develop and manage the Darvel Gala Day and associated events (e.g. The Colour Run). The Gala Team is an autonomous group that reports into the DDCC.
The Darvel Improvement Group (DIG) is a long standing group whose focus is on improving the environment of public spaces. For example, it leads on the Planters Project, The Rose Garden, River Clean Up, Welcome Gardens, Easter Egg Hunt and Festive Decorations.
The Darvel Music Company was formed to promote music culture, music development and ‘live’ musical performance within Darvel and other communities within East Ayrshire. The inaugural meeting was held on 30 April 2008 and it took over the organising and running of the prestigious Darvel Music Festival.
